3rd-5th Grade
Students in grades 3-5 will be working together in their general music classes to create a modern band. In order to participate in our modern band, students will learn to play a song per week on a variety of instruments including: drum kit, body percussion, tambourines, ukulele, guitar, bass, keyboards, and for third grade recorder.
Third Grade: Students are learning to play the note G on the recorders, and incorporate songs that use G into our repertoire. Students will identify the notes in their music before playing, practice moving their fingers with an without blowing into the recorder, and play short pieces. We are also learning to support longer notes with our breath by playing Hot Cross Buns.
Fourth Grade: Students in Ms. Gilbert's class are playing I've Got a Feeling as a full band, rotating students through the instruments so that everyone gets a turn to play every part. Next week we will learn D major on the instruments so that we can play 4 chord songs. Mr. G's class is working on playing melodies using accidentals (sharps and flats) in order to play See You Again.
Fifth Grade: Ms. French's homeroom is working on a variety of four chord songs using easy C, easy G, Emi, and D on the keyboards and guitars. Now that we have these four chords down we can explore different songs with different strum and rhythm patterns. One of the songs we will be using this week is Dynamite by Taio Cruz.
The following links are some resources for students who want to practice at home:
